Eleazar backs insurance policy for students amid education return to normal – Manila Bulletin
The Senate candidate, General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, expressed his support for the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) plan to have a health insurance policy for students.
Eleazar released the statement after CHEd President Prospero De Vera met with the Interagency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases and other university officials to discuss health insurance policy.
He said the health insurance policy could be of great help in ensuring the well-being of students amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is an important step in the midst of the pandemic as we face health challenges, especially with face-to-face classes resuming,” Eleazar said.
“This is one of the measures I would fight against to have a budget if I was given the chance to be elected,” he added.
Eleazar said that an additional budget for the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education could fund this insurance policy. He added that the Department of Budget and Management should also determine where the government could get the funds.
Protecting the health of the general public is among Eleazar’s priority measures in the event of victory in the next election.
Eleazar also plans to provide health insurance to other sectors, including barangay workers, public transport drivers and passengers, and security guards.
