Below is a press release from Mississippi Department of Insurance:

September is National Preparedness Month. With the state just experiencing severe flooding, it’s best to prepare now for future disasters and insurance claims.

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners recently published the “Disaster Claims Guide”.

You can find the guide online, here:

“Our state has just experienced intense flooding, a dramatic reminder of the need for flood insurance and disaster preparedness,” the insurance commissioner said. Mike Chaney. “I hope consumers will benefit from the claims guide as they recover from the floods and look to the future. Make a plan, determine the insurance coverage you need, and repair or replace damaged materials and items in and around your home.

Remember to print a copy and add it to your Go-Bag because, after a loss, it is important to file a claim as soon as possible. After a disaster, make sure you and your family are safe, then secure your belongings and then you can file a claim. Once a claim is filed, an adjuster will estimate the damages and determine how much your provider will pay.
